Hello All,

I did have an interesting summer, and if the world is our "field"
then I guess I went there. In June I spent a few days in Pinar del
Río, Cuba, attending a conference on language, education, and
development. I was truly amazed by the beauty of this country, much
more "Caribbean" than I had expected (I'm not sure why), and by the
people as well. It was my first trip there, and I hope not my last.

In July, I spent 3 weeks in Belize teaching applied linguistics to a
group of Belizean teachers. This was an especially gratifying
experience, and the students responded by coming up with some very
interesting potential research projects, most regarding Belizean
Creole and its use in schools. Plus, I got to eat some termites in
the rain forest! What more can you ask for?

Some photos and commentary from these trips can be accessed via my
web page (below); the links are right near the top of the page.
