Intercultural Communication

The Department of Communication Studies at the University of San

Applicants for these positions should specialize in one of the following
three areas: Interpersonal Communication, Rhetorical Theory and

Fall 2007, pending approval and funding.

Teaching responsibilities will include one of the introductory courses
for the major and Advanced Area courses that draw upon the candidate's
area of specialization. The introductory courses are entitled 'Rhetoric
and the Public Sphere,' (an introduction to the history of rhetorical
theory, with a focus contemporary political practices) 'Communication
and Culture,' (an introduction to cultural communication, with a focus
on the ethnographic study of cultures) and 'Communication and Everyday
Life' (a theory based introduction to interpersonal communication).
Additional courses could, but need not, include Communication and Aging,
Language and Social Interaction, Interpersonal Communication,
Organizational Communication, Intercultural Communication, Discourse and
Deliberation, Rhetoric and Citizenship, and Discourse and Power. The
Department continues to increase course offerings at the Junior-Senior
level and looks to new faculty to develop compelling new seminars. The
teaching load at USF is two courses per semester with an additional
course every fourth semester (2-2-2-3 over 2 years).

Qualifications: University teaching experience, evidence of a strong
commitment to teaching, evidence of scholarship, an earned doctorate by

Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae,
graduate transcripts, brief description of research plans, copies of
recent publication(s) and/or research paper(s), statement of teaching
philosophy, evidence of teaching ability including copies of teaching
