ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

LINGUISTIC ANTHROPOLOGY


Miami University: The Department of Anthropology invites applications  
for a tenure-track assistant professor position in linguistic  
anthropology beginning in August 2007. Candidates must have field  
experience working in one or more languages other than English.  
Regional expertise in Asia, Oceania, or the Americas preferred. The  
successful candidate will teach introductory and upper division  
undergraduate courses in linguistic and cultural anthropology;  
maintain an active research program; seek external funding; and  
provide service to the university and the profession. Ph.D. in  
anthropology required by time of appointment. Required qualities  
include: excellence in teaching and ability to contribute to a four- 
field department.  The Anthropology program has existed at Miami for  
over fifty years, and became an independent department in 2002.

disseminate the cultural and evolutionary knowledge developed in  
anthropology’s four fields. The department has 11 F.T.E. faculty  
members and three full-time Visiting Assistant Professors. Several  
faculty have joint appointments with other departments or programs  
including the Center for American and World Cultures  http://

International Studies Program, the Latin American Studies Program,  
the Institute of Environmental Studies, the Department of Sociology  
and Gerontology, and the Department of Zoology.
Applicants should send a cover letter detailing teaching and  
research, curriculum vitae, a writing sample, summary evidence of  
teaching excellence, and the names and contact information, including
