Teaching reading with phonetic method

Dear colleagues,

Do you know of any book or similar that teaches how to teach reading (in English) through the phonetic method? 

 I am actually asking this for personal reasons. My daughter can read in Italian, but not in English. I taught her using the phonetic method, which is the obvious choice with Italian. Now I would like to transfer her skill to reading English. 
Is there any work that has looked at this aspect of literacy
instruction, namely teaching bilinguals in an alternative language to
English and then passing the skill to English?
