I fully agree with Judy and Paul re The Linguists representing a negligent, undesirable paradigm of fieldwork. I should probably not have mentioned it at all, re-reading the request; I only did so because of its relative prominence.

Great to see this list coming together.

I want to second what Judy said about THE LINGUISTS—a very neocolonial type of hit and run salvage linguistics that can only be used with a great deal of commentary.  Almost unbelievably one of the linguists on-screen seems to equate ethnography with a one-night camp out adjacent to the Sora community in which he is collecting some data.  So again another reason why the video can only be used with immense caution and critique,

 Like Paul, I have had success with RISING VOICES and I’ll also mention WE STILL LIVE HERE (AS NUTAYUNEAN) —the amazing story of Wampanoag language reclamation as potentially useful resources.

Hello,
I am wondering if anyone can recommend a film or films that highlight the struggle or work for language revitalization among indigenous peoples?  Or the relation of language to daily life....  We are looking for films that are appropriate for a Spanish speaking audience (subtitles are fine).  Our Visual Anthropology program wants to host a festival and event about indigenous languages here at the University.  Thanks for your help!  Abrazos, Michael
