[Linganth] SLA 2021 Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony

Dear members and friends of the Society for Linguistic Anthropology,

I am writing to update you on the SLA schedule at the upcoming Baltimore AAA meetings.  This year, given expectations of a smaller conference turnout, the AAA is requiring all board and business meetings to be held virtually in October and November before the conference takes place.  I have listed the times of the three SLA virtual meetings below. Please put the Language and Social Justice Meeting and the SLA Business Meeting on your calendars and join us if you can!

The virtual SLA Business Meeting is open to all who are interested and will take place on Monday, November 1st, 6-8 pm ET. As usual, the meeting will feature annual reports from the extended board on SLA activities conducted during the 2021 year. However, it will not include the usual announcement of SLA-sponsored awards. Instead, all SLA awards will be announced at the (new) Society for Linguistic Anthropology Annual Awards Ceremony, to be held at the Baltimore AAA meetings on Friday, November 19, 8:00-9:15 pm ET.  The SLA Awards Ceremony will be followed by a cash bar reception, concluding at 11 pm. Awards will include: SLA Undergraduate Paper Prize, SLA Public Outreach and Community Service Award, John Gumperz Graduate Student Essay Prize, New Voices Book Prize, and the Sapir Book Prize.

I will be sending out more information about all events in the weeks to come. The zoom links will be announced by the SLA and AAA shortly before each of the virtual meetings.
