Dear LANSI Community:

This past weekend on October 13th and 14th, we hosted the 11^th Meeting 
of /LANSI (The Language and Social Interaction Working Group)/. We are

This year’s event was unique in many ways. With ICCA and IPrA just a few 
months ago, we worried that no one would come! Beyond that looming 
concern, not only did we overcome unimaginable obstacles up to the very 
last minute, this year’s conference also took place at a very difficult 
time with horrific happenings in the world. In the midst of all this, we 
tried very hard to make LANSI a “playground” with our newly designed 
10-10 format (10 min talk + 10 min Q&A). It looked like we were about 
80% successful with some stellar examples over the two days, and we are 
already thinking of ways to perfect the 10-10 format for next year. In 
the words of our co-presidents: “For the past two days, we have been 
privileged to hang out together at this giant playground. We have tossed 
hot topics like phoneme instruction in ASL, multimodal analysis of 
children's text, and the nuanced interaction of government, mental 
health, or birthing contexts back and forth like colorful balls.We’ve 
played joyfully on slides of moral order where sanctions go up and

Throughout the two days, many participants -- both old-timers and 
new-comers -- continued to share with us their excitement about 
returning to the “intellectually deep and interpersonally friendly” 
forum LANSI provides, and all this would not have been possible without 
the help of our wonderful volunteers and amazing attendees.

To all our past and future participants, thank you for showing up. The
