To all linguistic anthropologists attending the upcoming conference of the European Association of Social Anthropologists:

The 2024 EASA conference (23-26 July) is less than two weeks away and I write with news on EASA Linguistic Anthropology Network (ELAN) events in Barcelona.

First, the official ELAN Network Meeting at the conference will be held on Wednesday, 24 July at 15:00-16:30 in the Facultat de Geografia i Història, Room 221. After a very brief report on ELAN activities and plans, attendees will be asked to share a short (3 min) synopsis of their most recent piece of writing. So come to let others know about your research and to hear the latest about colleagues’ work.

All are welcome to attend, so please help us spread the word to peers with an interest in linguistic anthropology. We especially hope to see junior scholars at the event.

After the meeting, we will migrate to a nearby bar to continue informal conversations over beverages. Details on the destination will be shared closer to the date. We hope to see you there!

Second, the ELAN-sponsored panel, “Reframing intentional action: a linguistic anthropological approach [P181],” will take place on Friday, 26 July at 9:00-10:45 and at 11:15-13:00. The panel is organized by Yazan Doughan and Chelsie Yount-André and features presentations by Yazan Doughan, Matthew Archer, Xochitl Marsilli-Vargas, Idil Ozkan, Chelsie Yount-André, and Myungji Lee. Jack Sidnell will serve as the panel discussant.

One final note to people attending the EASA conference: feel free to use the ELAN listserv to promote your own linguistic anthropologically themed papers and panels. Simply send a message to: elan at lists.easaonline.org

Don’t hesitate to contact me via email (andrew.graan at helsinki.fi<mailto:andrew.graan at helsinki.fi>) with any questions. Looking forward to seeing you in Barcelona!

Best wishes,
Andy Graan
ELAN Co-Convenor
