Dear Colleagues,
I am very excited to share with you that my book, *Making Sense: Language,
Ethics, and Understanding in Deaf Nepal*, is out in the world! I am sharing
the news here both because I hope it may be of interest (and I would love
to know your thoughts!) and because I am grateful to multiple people on
this list for the ways their publications and our conversations have shaped
my work.
*Making Sense *is based on fieldwork with both deaf Nepali Sign Language
(NSL) signers and users of what they call *natural sign* – a less
conventionalized mode of signing that brings into focus the ways in which
emergent language is fundamentally and simultaneously a semiotic *and* an
ethical endeavor - and thus how engaging in mutual sense-making beyond
conventional language is both possible and precarious.
It is available in print (

Access (https://luminosoa.org/site/books/m/10.1525/luminos.193/).
Warmly and with thanks,
Mara
(with apologies for cross-posting)
