Dear Linguistic Anthropologists,
It was great to see so many of you at the meeting in New Orleans a few
weeks ago.
I write because we continue to seek nominees for the Secretary-Treasurer
position of the SLA. As you may know, the SLA Executive Board is made up of
three elected Officers (President, President-Elect, Secretary-Treasurer)
and three elected Members at Large. If confirmed as a nominee for SLA
Secretary-Treasurer, you would be added to the 2026 SLA ballot, with
elections being held in Spring 2026.
This is an opportunity to contribute to the next generation of SLA
initiatives—collaborating with colleagues, mentoring students, and thinking
seriously about institutional and structural change in our field. If you
are interested in helping build the systems that make new ways of thinking
and doing possible for SLA, we invite you to consider serving.
Below are key details about the position (3-year term: November
2026–November 2029):
-
Stewards the SLA internal records and budget
-
Monthly meetings with the SLA Executive Board
-
Twice-yearly meetings with the SLA Extended Board
-
Regular correspondence among Executive Board members for planning,
organization, and decision-making on key initiatives
-
As an Executive Board member, receives a $250 travel stipend for
official business at the AAA annual meeting
If you would like to know more about the role, duties, and time commitment,
feel free to reach out to current SLA Secretary-Treasurer, Dr. Netta
Avineri (soclinganthtreasurer at gmail.com). She is happy to share further
details with you.
*For self-nominations*, the process is easy: simply email us your
name, an updated
CV, and a short paragraph about why you are interested in the position and
what you could contribute.
*For nominating a colleague*, please check with them first to confirm their
interest and then email us their name and email address. We will then reach
out to them directly to request materials.
In either case, please send materials by *Friday, 12/12.*
Thank you for considering serving the SLA in this capacity (!), and all the
best,
SLA Nominations Committee
