Dear colleagues,
The Language and Social Justice (LSJ) Committee is seeking two to three new members to join the Steering Committee for a three-year term starting January 2026 and ending December 2029. The LSJ is a standing committee of the Society for Linguistic Anthropology dedicated to increasing awareness of and responding to language-related injustice. Steering Committee members work to organize the efforts of the larger committee members and serve three-year terms to provide a strong institutional memory in the core group. New core committee members will become co-chairs in their third year (calendar year 2029).
If you are interested, please email the current co-chairs with a brief statement of interest (no more than 300 words) at your earliest convenience.
Nadxieli Toledo Bustamante, toledobustamante at csus.edu<mailto:toledobustamante at csus.edu>
Katherine Morales, katherineravenna at gmail.com<mailto:katherineravenna at gmail.com>
There is no formal deadline, as the positions will be open until filled.
In your statement of interest, please include what issues you are particularly interested in and what experience you have in advocating for language-related justice.
We encourage applications from historically marginalized and underrepresented groups, including but not limited to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, & other people of color) scholars, disabled scholars, queer and trans scholars, and scholars with diverse language backgrounds. We welcome applicants at all career stages (including graduate students) and with any or no institutional affiliation, but this search cycle, we are also strongly encouraging applications from established scholars.
Please feel free to share this call with colleagues who you think might be interested.
Thank you,
Nadxieli and Katherine, on behalf of the LSJ Steering Committee
