The Script Encoding Initiative <https://sei.berkeley.edu/> at UC Berkeley
is recruiting a Postdoctoral Scholar for a two-year position as part of an
NSF-funded project on the politics of digitizing newly invented writing
systems.

We are looking for someone with strong qualitative or mixed-methods
research skills, an interest in writing systems, and a willingness to learn
about digital technologies and technical standards. Regional expertise in
West Africa or South Asia is a plus but not required.

We welcome scholars approaching the topic from anthropology, linguistics,
history, STS, computer science, and related fields. The position can start
as early as January 2026, with flexibility in the start date.
