Hi all,

I'm interested in putting together an AAA panel about the discursive processes by which phenomena are framed as "typical" and the political stakes of such framing. Building on scholarship on typification and scaling, the panel will consider matters such as: how stereotypes are constructed, maintained, and transformed; how single events are rendered representative; and how utterances are metapragmatically characterized as "unoriginal" tokens of types.

If you are interested in participating, please send a topic (no need for a full abstract yet) to me at eakramer at illinois.edu by Monday, April 6th.

Thanks,
Elise
