I am impressed by such a strong and detailed support of my (and
others') explicit and implicit suggestions, as well as by making my
implicit suggestion explicit. I fully understand that word
processor files are not an appropriate solution of the technical
problems associated with electronic grammar publishing; and in
fact, I mentioned this just as the easiest option which could make
it possible to launch the Internet Grammars project and to
establish this way of publishing grammars.

This is of course true that this "easiest" solution has a number of
drawbacks, not only those mentioned by Peter. I was also thinking
of PostScript format as a possible alternative. Certainly,
PDF-format appears to be a better solution.
