A-only agreement

Dear Peter,
I cannot give you a concrete example of mere A-Agreement, still recall
that for instance in Abkhaz, the A-prefixes show a stronger degree of
phonetic fusion with the verb stem than the (in my terms) S=O-Agreement
prefixes. Especially, the first person A-prefixes show assimilation
(voiced) (e.g. 1SG s- > z-), whereas the corresponding S-O-prefix (s(@-)
don't. A similar process can be observed in Navajo, as far as I can
remember. This aspect suggests that the grammaticalization process
concerning AGR-prefixes first started (in Abkhaz/Abaza) with A-prefixes
only (A-VERB), by a time when S and O pronouns did not yet pro-cliticise
(hence *A-VERB, but *S + VERB, *O + A-VERB).
As for mere O-Agreement. I recall that Claudia Gerstner-Link has
described something the like for Kilmeri (Papua)....
Best wishes,
Wolfgang
