[Lingtyp] Grammatcalization of 'road/way/path'.

Same locution in French, but not causative /explicative by itself:

"annoncer par voie de presse" = to announce sth in the press

"informer par la voie hiérarchique" = to inform through official channels

[conclusion] "par voie de conséquence," = as a result,
