Assistant professor at the Chair of General and Comparative Linguistics at the
University of Regensburg.

Dear Typologists,

The chair of General and Comparative Linguistics at the University of
Regensburg seeks to fill a three-year full-time assistant professor position
starting from September 16, 2021. The contract can be extended for another
three years period. The position is payed according to the German pay scale for
public officers ('Akademischer Rat') A13, or alternatively for scientific
employees E 13 TV L.

The duties comprise 5 hours per semester of teaching introductory and advanced
courses of all central areas of linguistics in the BA and MA programs "General
and Comparative Linguistics" at the University of Regensburg. The language of
instruction is German or English; a decent command of German is necessary for
university-internal communication. In addition, it is expected that the
successful candidate supervises BA and MA theses, provides reviews of BA and MA
theses, and acts as an advisor of our students. He/she is expected to conduct
his/her own research that leads to the 'Habilitation'. The 'Habilitation' is a
second PhD dissertation in the German academic system that is required for a
professorship.

The candidate holds a PhD in Linguistics in hands that has been earned no
longer than three years ago. The candidate has a strong research background and
interest in at least two of the following areas: language typology/ general
linguistics, language documentation, descriptive linguistics, or historical
linguistics, and the PhD dissertation can be attributed to one of these fields.

Further information on the structure, content, and spirit of the BA and MA
program of "General and Comparative Linguistics" at the University of
Regensburg can be obtained from our website: http://www-avs.uni-regensburg.de/
.

Please send your application (CV including a list of publications and taught
courses, the PhD dissertation, and one published article) no later than May 31,
2021 to Johannes Helmbrecht (johannes.helmbrecht at ur.de) in electronic form
(pdf). Short-listed candidates will be invited for a job interview later in the
second half of June. Candidates will be asked to present their post-doc
research projects that may lead to a “Habilitation”.

Please forward this message to people who may have an interest in this
position. In case of further questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks for your attention.
Johannes Helmbrecht
