[Lingtyp] Correlative constructions

Dear colleagues,

Can people suggest some BASIC literature on the diachronic evolution of correlative conjunctions? Our specific case is one of reduplication of an 'in/ among' preposition (Hebrew BEIN X-locative) into a correlative locative conjunction (BEIN X-locative U-VEIN Y-locative' literally, 'between X and between Y' = 'between X and Y'). I would think that correlatives are excellent for expressing relations between parallels/equivalent phrases, hence the prevalence (restriction?) to conjunctions?
