I forward an advertisement for the chair of Romance Languages in the
University of Oxford, England. According to the Statutes the "professor
will be required to give lectures and instruction in the structure and
historical development of the languages which are derived from Latin".

The electors intend to proceed to an election to the Professorship of
the Romance Languages which falls vacant with effect from 1 October
1996 upon the retirement of Professor R.R. Posner.  The stipend of the
professorship is at present pounds stlg 36,827 per annum.
 
    A non-stipendiary professorial fellowship at Trinity College is
attached to the professorship.

            Position Announcement
 
    The Department of Linguistics at the University of Connecticut
anticipates a tenure-track position beginning in the Fall semester
of 1996, at the rank of Assistant, or Associate, or Full Professor.
Salary is negotiable.  Ph.D. is required by the time duties begin.
We are interested in candidates with specialization in experimental
phonetics and phonological theory.  Applicants whose research interests
interact well with those of the current faculty are especially sought.
Applicants should be prepared to teach in the area of their specialization
at the graduate and under-graduate level, as well as more general
linguistics courses at the undergaduate level.
 
    Applicants should send a complete dossier (letter of application,
curriculum vitae, samples of work in progress or published, description
of courses prepared to teach, and teaching evaluations if available) and

The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at
Rutgers University is seeking candidates for an initial
three-year tenure track assistant professor position in
Korean language, literature, or culture to begin
September l, l996.  Teaching responsibilities include
Korean language courses through advanced level and
courses on Korean literature, culture, or society.
Qualifications include the following:
 
l. Native or near native proficiency in the language
 
2. Excellent command of English
 
3. Ph.D. in hand or to be received by the time of
appointment in Korean language and literature or culture,
or a field related to Korean Studies
 
4. Ability to assist in the development of Korean Studies
 
5. Prior experience in teaching Korean courses preferable
