Oriental Languages appears on page 29 of the current MLA job list.
It reads: "Assistant professor of German, tenure track, Ph.D. in
hand, Fall 1996.  Germanic linguistics and pre-19th cent. Lit.
Strong commitment to language teaching on all levels, proficiency-
based instruction and ability to coordinate basic program.  Interest

                        Sociolinguistics / Spanish in the U.S.A.
 
Assistant Professor of Spanish with specialization in Sociolinguistics
/ Spanish in the U.S.A., and demonstrated research focus in language
variation and change. Solid background in one or more core areas of
theoretical linguistics: phonology, morphology, syntax,
semantics. Teaching in undergraduate language and linguistics courses,
and in the linguistics graduate program. Tenure-track position, to
begin Autumn 1996. Ph.D. by time of appointment. Teaching experience
preferred; publications desirable. Native or near-native Spanish

The Department of Asian Languages and Literature announces the opening of
a tenure-track position in Korean to start September 1996.
 
University of Washington, Seattle, WA  98195.  Assistant Professor,
Department of Asian Languages and Literature.  A tenure-track appointment
for 1996-97 is expected in the area of Korean Language and Literature.
Field of specialization may be either literature or linguistics.
Applicants should have the Ph.D. degree and be highly qualified for
undergraduate and graduate teaching and independent research.  Duties
will involve the teaching and supervision of courses at various levels in
Korean Language and Literature.  Special consideration will be given to
candidates whose research interests are consonant with those of the
Chinese and Japanese faculties and who have a knowledge of a second East
Asian language.  Applications, including CV, statement of research
interests, and three letters of recommendation, should be sent to Chair,
Korean Search Committee, University of Washington, Department of Asian
Languages and Literature, Mail Box 353521, Seattle, WA  98195-3521.
Priority will be given to applications received before December 1, 1995.
