REMINDER
[We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.]

My linguist colleagues at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and myself
are unhappy about the scarcity of information that we can provide for
students who want to know what they could do with a BA/MA/PhD in
Linguistics. We would appreciate any relevant information including
- statistics regarding what BA- MA- or PhD-level students end up
doing after they get their degrees
- informal accounts of the same
- any articles or books on the subject.
I will post a summary. Thank you!

I would like to thank all those who sent suggestions to me for changes,
additions, deletions etc for the 6th edition of An Introduction to
Language by Fromkin and Rodman. Bob and I will be meeting at the end of
November to begin work on the new edition and so once more I am asking
any of you who have used our text book (and we are indeed appreciative
of those who have) to send us comments should you have suggestions or
particular peeves or hates or loves or..... Corrections of language data
that we may have gotten wrong are always deeply appreciated. For those who
don't use the text we of course wish you would and would like to incorporate
changes so that perhaps you will adopt it for an intro class.
Anyway, we promise some interesting changes, updates, and of course
good and relevant new cartoons. (If you have any you would like to share
we would like those too).
Many thanks in advance
