The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting
applications for the position of Dean, Language Arts.
 
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
 
Reporting to the Dean of Instruction and Technology, the Division Dean
is responsible for the vision, leadership, curriculum quality, class
scheduling, personnel management and financial accountability of the
division to serve students needs and interests.  The division includes
the departments of English, English as a Second Language, Foreign
Languages, and Speech Communications.
 
The Dean is responsible for the direct administration of faculty and
classified staff assignments, faculty and staff evaluations, and
teaching load of all full- and part-time faculty.  Develop the annual
division budget.  Coordinate all reporting related to classes,
personnel, students, budgets, and facilities and equipment.  Responsible
for curriculum and course scheduling activities.  Coordinate a)
fundraising, b) marketing and promotion, c) public information and
service.  Plan and implement Saturday, summer, evening, and extended
campus classes, activities and programs.  Work with external agencies,
advisory bodies, accrediting commissions related to the division's
programs and services.  Represent the division in an administrative
capacity as assigned.  Teaching responsibilities are included in this
administrative assignment.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 	
1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse
academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability and ethnic background of
community college students.
2. Master's degree from an accredited institution in a discipline within
or related to the division, or the equivalent.
3. One year of administrative experience, formal training, internship or
leadership in an area related to the division.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Teaching experience in one discipline within the division.
2. Two years experience as an administrator.
3. Experience in supervision or coordinating academic and/or workforce
education programs.
4. Experience in financial and personnel management.
5. Fundraising experience.
6. Experience with instructional and management technology.
 
In addition, successful candidates will demonstrate the following
knowledge and abilities:
1. Interest in students and ability to student issues and concerns.
2. Strong interpersonal communication skills.
3. Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
4. Vision, creativity, and follow through in an environment of shared
governance and academic freedom.
5. Ability to promote and advocate for the division within the college
and larger community.
6. Quality, principles of trust, team work and collaboration.
7. Concepts and principles of student learning.
8. Work effectively with diverse students, staff, faculty and
administrators individually and as team members.
9. Handle difficulty and sensitive issues and problems and resolve
conflicts.

2. A current resume of all work experience, formal education and
training.
3. Maximum of one page position paper with emphasis on the candidate's
envisioned role of the Dean.
4. Copies of all college transcripts.
 
SALARY RANGE: 	$6229.27 - $6700.00 per month
plus benefits
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:   Full-Time, Permanent,
11 months per year.
 
STARTING DATE:   July 1, 1996 or as soon
as possible thereafter.
