3rd Celtic Language Learning Conference

 2nd CALL FOR PAPERS
 
Deadline: December 20, 1996
 
This conference is being organized by the North American
Association for Celtic Language Teachers (NAACLT).  Proposals for
individual papers are welcome on the following topics involving
any one or more of the modern Celtic languages:
 
computer-assisted instruction
dialect choice in language learning
language acquisition
language and gender
language-learning materials
language policy and planning
language testing and teacher certification
syllabus design
 
Papers will be 20 minutes long with a 10-minute discussion period
following.  Send three double-spaced printed copies of a 300-word
proposal with name, address, voice and fax number, e-mail
address, and institutional affiliation on the first copy.  Second
and third copy should have no identification.  Also send one copy
of a 50-word summary to be included in the conference program and
book of abstracts.  Submit these in printed form as well as the
computer texts by e-mail.  Texts will be accepted on disk for
those without e-mail access.  If submitted on disk, be sure to
indicate DOS or Macintosh and the word-processing program used.

This conference will follow the Celtic Language Teachers
Professional Development Day on May 30, also to be held at
St. Francis Xavier.  A pre-conference field trip and
post-conference one-day Scottish Gaelic immersion course are also
being planned.

COMMISSION ON SEMIOTICS AND COMMUNICATION, SPEECH COMMUNICATION
ASSOCIATION, ANNUAL MEETING, NOVEMBER, 1997, CHICAGO:
CALL FOR PAPERS:
 
The Commission invites completed papers, detailed abstracts and panel
proposals that (1) appraise and/or apply the work of a major theorist; (2)
offer insights on gender, race, ehtnicity, class, sexuality, disability,
or other issues of social concern; (3) critically analyze a cultural text
or artifact; and (4) examine the interdisciplinary contributions of
semiotics.  Student papers are welcome and should be identified as such.
Completed Papers should include a separate title page with author
identification and a 75-word abstract.  Detailed abstracts should include
a bibliography as well as a title page.  Program proposals should include
a title, rationale, names and affiliations of participnats, and a 75-word
abstract for each paper.  By February 15, 1997, submit five copies to:
