The following position may be available for the coming academic year,
pending funding.

                                CRTL Visiting Scholar Position

          Rationale

The continual infusion of new knowledge, skills, viewpoints, and
technologies is integral to maintaining quality and relevance to
any academic organization. Within a unit that has the expertise
and potential of NTID's Center for Research, Teaching and
Learning (CRTL), such stimulation is especially important to the
promotion of collaboration and vitality. One method of fostering
such an atmosphere is to bring in diverse scholars from outside the
Center to collaborate with us for varying periods of time. Such
scholars, to be referred to as CRTL Visiting Scholars (consistent
with RIT terminology), would work closely with Center faculty and
staff across all departments as well as with relevant groups
outside of the CRTL. The close working relationship with Center
members is designed to result in skill development, intellectual
stimulation, and collaborative ties that will endure long after
Scholars return to their former positions.

          Qualifications

A CRTL visiting scholar will typically be a person with long-
standing, significant experience and credentials related to
deafness. Such experience could be in any area relevant to the
mission of the CRTL. The person could be from inside or outside
the University. The experience and academic background of the
person should be such that both the Center and the individual
would mutually benefit from a working relationship. Level of
support and visiting rank (where appropriate) will be
          commensurate with the Scholar's credentials.

          Process/conditions of employment

All proposed CRTL Scholars will submit a letter of intent that
includes a description of the work to be undertaken during the
visiting period and a curriculum vitae or resume. Each potential
CRTL Scholar must also identify one or more CRTL members who will
sponsor the person and coordinate the necessary organizational
details, such as office space, clerical/computer support, and
schedules. The time in residence of a CRTL Scholar may vary
from one to twelve months, and a CRTL Scholar may reside in any
of the departments of the Center. A final summary report of
accomplishments will be submitted to the Director of CRTL within
one month following of the end of the visit.

The CRTL Fellow program will follow the Academic Approval of
Visiting Scholars Policy as accepted by the RIT Faculty Council
          (3/10/94).
