		History of Sinology at the Western AOS
 
This is a call for submissions for the History of Sinology panel at the
meeting of the Western Branch of the American Oriental Society. The
meeting will be held in Tempe, Arizona, on October 25-27, 1996.
 
Papers on the history of Sinology (the study of China) in all countries
and traditions other than China itself are welcome.  Studies of linguistic
Sinology are expecially of interest.  Papers on Chinese Sinologists (or
schools of Sinology) active since the Opium Wars or influenced by
non-Chinese ideas are also welcome.  It is expected that most papers will
concentrate on scholarship since 1500, and on branches of the Humanities;
but other topics will by all means also be considered.  Please do not
hesitate to write for more information, or to inquire about specific
proposals.
 
The Western Branch meeting is the main China-related meeting of the
American Oriental Society.  Be assured that you don't have to be
affiliated with a school in the Western U.S. to present a paper there.
You do have to join the AOS in order to take part, however.
 
All papers and abstracts must be in English, and must present essentially
new research.
 
Papers will be reviewed anonymously.  All participants must submit a
standard AOS abstract of not more than 300 words for publication in the
Program.  In addition, participants may submit a longer abstract or the
full paper, for the purposes of review.
