JOB ANNOUNCEMENT:  LINGUISTICS
 
Pending approval, Rutgers University English Department at Camden will
hire an Assistant Professor of Linguistics, tenure track.  Ph.D. required,
with teaching experience and demonstrated commitment to scholarship.
Interest in rhetoric and composition theory also desirable.  Five-course
teaching load (per year) of sole linguist in department includes broad
range of linguistics courses on undergraduate and graduate levels.  Begin

              Visiting Lecturer (8 months)
              Japanese language and culture
 
The Linguistics Department, Memorial University of Newfoundland,
invites applications for a Visiting Lecturer in Japanese language
and linguistics, for a period of 8 months, beginning September 1, 1996.
Applicants must be a certified teacher of Japanese as a second language
or must have completed an M.A. in applied linguistics or other related
fields in Japanese.  The successful applicant will be required to
teach introductory courses in Japanese language and may be asked to
teach a course in English on aspects of Japanese culture and/or
Japanese linguistics.  Funding is available to cover the cost of
travel [up to a maximum of $4000 (Cdn)] to and from St. John's for
the successful applicant.  Deadline for receipt of application is
28 June 1996.
