Call for Papers:

Deadline for receipt of abstracts is Friday, 14 February 1997.

Abstracts are invited for 30-minute presentations (plus 10
minutes discussion) on topics dealing with formal aspects of
Slavic syntax, semantics, morphology, phonology, and
psycholinguistics. Send 6 copies of a ONE-PAGE ANONYMOUS abstract
to the address below. No fax or e-mail submissions will be
accepted. Please include ONE 3x5} card with:

			1) title of paper;
			2) your name;
			3) address and affiliation;
			4) telephone and/or fax numbers;
			5) e-mail address.

Subject:  Humor Studies Conference

CALL FOR PAPERS

The International Society for Humor Studies Conference: Humor in
the Heartland of America will be held at the University of
Central Oklahoma from July 8 until July 13, 1997.

Papers must be in English, and three (3) copies of the abstract
or proposal must be post-marked or e-mailed by February 18, 1997.
Abstracts and proposals submitted electronically or by fax must
be followed by hard copies and registration fee within one
week. All abstracts and panel, symposium, workshop, and poster
proposals must include title(s), name(s) of presenter(s),
affiliation(s), address(es), and phone/e-mail/fax
number(s). Abstracts must be no more than 250 words,
single-spaced on no more than one side of one sheet of paper.
Proposals must include an abstract for each paper as well as the
rationale for the panel, symposium, or workshop.

Registration Information

Submissions will be considered only if the registration fee has
been sent, preferably with the abstract or proposal. In the event
that an abstract or proposal is not accepted, the registration
fee can be cancelled and the fee refunded within two weeks of
notification of rejection. June 2, 1997, is the last day to
cancel any registration with partial refund.

Acceptance of abstracts and proposals along with the provisional
program, housing and food information, list of air carriers,
suggested tours, etc., will be mailed on or about April 1, 1997.

For 1997 ISHS members, the registration fee is $105. For non-
members, the registration fee is $135. For students (with proof
of student status), the registration fee is $75. The registration
fee includes the abstract book and other materials and morning
and afternoon refreshments. Payment may be made by purchase
order, money order, or check in U.S. funds only (made payable to
UCO--ISHS).

Membership in ISHS, which includes a subscription to HUMOR:
International Journal of Humor Research, is $60 for Americans,
$55 for students, and $65 for for foreign membership--journals
will be sent via air mail, book rate, to non-US addresses. Send
membership fees to Don L. F. Nilsen, Department of English,

UCO is located in Edmond, OK, on the outskirts of Oklahoma City,
and is serviced by Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City.
UCO enrolls approximately 16,000 students and is the third
largest four-year institution of higher education in the state.
