HOTEL RESERVATIONS

You will be able to reserve a room at the conference rate at two locations
within walking distance to the UW campus, the University Inn (4 blocks
west of campus) and the Silver Cloud Inn (about 10 blocks northeast of
campus).

University Inn, whose rates range from $70-88, encourages you to make
reservations before February 19 at 1-800-733-3855 or by e-mail at
univinn at aol.com.. Silver Cloud, whose rates range from $66-78, invites you
to call 1-800-551-7207.

Both hotels have amenities such as fitness centers, Jacuzzis and
continental breakfast. Please request a brochure when you make your
reservation if you want to have additional information and/or a map of the
neighborhood.

TRANSPORTATION FROM SEA-TAC AIRPORT

Both hotels recommend the "Super Shuttle," which offers a discounted fare
of $14 to either location. Just place a call to Super Shuttle
(206-644-1424) from the baggage claim area, being sure to specify where
you want to go and that you want the hotel rate.

You might also want to consider a taxi to your hotel, which will run
approximately $40, not including the tip.

Public transportation is available on the Metro bus system for under $2,
but it is not direct or quick. Information is available at the airport.

Subject: Babble: Java-based Unicode Software (free)

Babble, under development by Robert Bingler at the Institute for
Advanced Technology in the Humanities, is an SGML-capable synoptic
text tool that can display multiple texts in parallel windows. It uses
Unicode, an ISO 16-bit character set standard, which allows
multilingual texts, using mixed character sets, to be displayed
simultaneously. Babble also allows users to search for strings in text
or in tags, and to link open texts for scrolling and searching. More
information and source code is available at

http://www.iath.virginia.edu/babble/

If you'd like to be notified of subsequent releases and improvements,
please send email to jmu2m at virginia.edu and ask to be subscribed to
babble-l, the majordomo list for Babble's users and developers.
