SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CENTRAL AND EAST EUROPEAN STUDENTS
are available from HESP (OSI) to students in the
Graduate Program in Cognitive Science at NBU
- ------------------------------------------------------
PROGRAM FEATURES
Degrees offered: Post-Graduate Diploma, M.Sc., Ph.D. Duration: 1 to 6
years depending on the degree and the individual learning and research
rate.
Courses: Strong interdisciplinary program covering Psychology,
Artificial Intelligence, Neurosciences, Linguistics, Philosophy,
Mathematics, Methods. Courses are taught in English.
Annual International Summer School: the intensive courses given by
distinguished lecturers at the school are part of the regular program.
Research: Theoretical and experimental research in integration of the
symbolic and connectionist approaches, hybrid cognitive architectures,
models of memory and reasoning, analogy, psycholinguistics, aphasia,
vision, imagery, agnosia.
Supervisors: at least two advisors with different backgrounds
(possibly one external international advisor) are assigned to every
student.
Dissertation committee: each student is assigned an international
dissertation committee and international reviewers.

* B.Sc./B.A. degree in psychology, computer science, linguistics,
philosophy, neurosciences, or related fields.
* Fluency in English.

FINANCIAL AID
Full scholarships (tuition fee and living expenses) are available to
students from Central and Eastern Europe thanks to the Soros
Foundation.

ANNOUNCEMENT
Teaching Assistantship of Spanish Language in Linguistics
Program
The Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics at Syracuse
University will likely have assistantships available in the Spanish
Language Program for students enrolling in the fall '97 semester to
begin the Master's degree program in Linguistics. The MA degree in
the Linguistics Program offers concentrations in the following areas:
information representation and retrieval; language acquisition;
language, culture and society; linguistic theory; logic and language;
and teaching English as a second language, and is usually completed in
two years. Interested parties may request an application from the
Graduate School, Suite 303 Bowne Hall, Syracuse University, Syracuse,
NY 13244-1200.
While there is no application deadline, interested parties are
encouraged to apply as early as possible. Additional information
about the assistantship may be obtained from the Department of
