We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

Hi,
I am currently working on my PhD on learning languages on the
internet, especially online courses in English and French. It would be
most helpful if anyone who came across such a site could mail its
address to me. I will gladly keep you informed in the process.
Thanks for your help.
Regards

Does anyone have a reference for the observation that morphemes are like
"beads on a string" (in some classical formulation)? Jesperson? Bloomfield?
I can't find it!
I've seen this quote a number of times but without citation. Is this a
linguistic urban legend or did someone actually say this at some point?

Subject: Seeking Paul Gaeng
A European colleague seeks to get back in contact with the American
Romance scholar Paul A. Gaeng, formerly of Indiana University.
Searching in the LINGUIST address finder and LSA's list has
been unsuccessful.
Is he still living?
Does anyone have his address?
Please write directly to: Wayles Browne, Cornell U., ewb2 at cornell.edu

We are looking to buy/borrow/beg/steal colourful language-related
posters, maps etc to brighten up the walls of our teaching rooms.
Can anyone suggest where we might get hold of such things?
Many thanks in advance - I'll post a summary.
