We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

Subject: English Speakers in Medieval Italy
I remember reading something years ago about a village
in Italy where English was spoken for several
generations, because of a large number of mercenaries
who ended up settling there, probably in the late
medieval period. Would someone know a source for this
information?
Thank you,

Dear Colleagues,
I'm in a research group that is investigating factors leading to
successful learning of ASL by adults. We are looking for published
literature related specifically to differences in L2 learning (signed
or spoken) by younger vs. older adults. If you know of such literature,
please let me know. I will be happy to summarize for the list.
Thanks in advance for your help.
