We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

i'm looking for a typological-diachronic study of stop systems,
specifically to address the following:
(1) the evolution of simple /p,t,k/ systems from systems with more
features: what is the evolutionary pathway to such a simple system?
(2) more on the transition of *l, especially to voiced dental [d] (like
lakota/dakota)
any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
Can anyone recommend a good descriptive grammar of Portuguese (written
in English)?
Thanks in advance,
Heather Haberl
