The following Fulbright awards carry enhanced benefits and are viewed as
among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Program. Lecturing
is in English. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and have a prominent record
of scholarly accomplishment. Consult Web site for information about

Austria - Fulbright University of Innsbruck Distinguished Chair in
Linguistics: Grantee will offer two lecture courses and one seminar to
undergraduate and graduate students. The grantee should be a
scholar-teacher with interests in an interdisciplinary approach and broad
interests in the study of language and should cover a wide range of
languages and methodological perspectives (e.g. historical, descriptive,
typological). Some knowledge of German is advantageous but not required.
Faculty of Humanities. One semester, beginning October 2002 or March 2003.
Benefits: 4,360 Euro per month, travel grant of 800 Euro for grantee only,
and monthly allowance of 145 Euro per accompanying dependent (up to three).

Italy - Venice Chair in the Philosophy of Language/Linguistics: Grantee
will teach one course to masters/doctoral students, and will provide some
tutorial assistance. Subject expertise desired is theoretical linguistics,
with specializations in syntax and semantics. Academic rank open. Three
months, beginning end of February 2003. Benefits: 16.8 million Italian
lire, 200,000 lire per month for each accompanying dependent, 1,500,000 lire
settling-in allowance, plus international travel for grantee only.
