Africana Studies Program Coordinator


The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University
invites applications for the position of Coordinator of Africana
Studies Program (ASP). The Africana Studies Program is an
interdisciplinary undergraduate certificate program.

We are seeking applicants with academic background in Africana Studies
and with teaching, service and research credentials that qualify the
Coordinator for a beginning tenure-track assistant professor
appointment in one of the Eberly College's social science or
humanities units: communication studies, English, foreign languages,
geology and geography, history, philosophy, political science,
psychology, public administration, religious studies, social work,
sociology and anthropology, or women's studies. Applicants should have
a terminal degree; however, ABDs near completion will be
considered. Salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with
experience.

The responsibilities of the Coordinator include: providing program
assessment, management and planning; curriculum development; hiring
and supervising of three teaching assistants; coordinating multiple
sections of "Introduction to African Studies"; recruiting and advising
ASP students; recruiting ASP faculty associates; and chairing the ASP
Faculty Committee.  The Coordinator will have a reduced teaching load
in recognition of the administrative responsibilities. The Coordinator
qreports to the Dean of the College, and will work with the Director of
the Center for Black Culture and Research (within the Division of
Student Affairs) on initiatives of mutual interest. For additional
