Subject:  FUNDING FOR PH.D. PROGRAM IN FRANKFURT

The graduate program "Sentence Types: Variation and Interpretation"
(Graduiertenkolleg "Satztypen: Variation und Interpretation") at the
University of Frankfurt/Main, Germany, is seeking applications for six
doctoral research grants.

The program was founded in April 2001 and receives its funding from the
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), the German national research
foundation. It combines several areas of linguistics and establishes
interdisciplinary relations with the neighboring disciplines of cognitive
psychology, neuroscience and computer science.

The grants are offered to students in the areas of theoretical linguistics
(syntax, formal semantics, pragmatics), language typology, cognitive science
or computer science. These positions are available for two years from April
1, 2002. They can be extended to the maximum duration of 36 months.

Applications with reference to one of the projects, including a five- to
six-page dissertation proposal, should be sent by February 15, 2002, to the
