Edinburgh University expects to appoint a post-doctoral researcher to
work with Dr. Alice Turk on a three-year research project funded by
the UK Arts and Humanities Research Board.  The goals of the project
are 1) to investigate the role of sub-lexical constituents (e.g. feet
and morphemes) in speech through a series of production experiments,
and 2) to test a theory of prosodic boundary realisation by examining
the effects of rate of speech and phrasal stress on word boundary
markers.  The requirement for the position is a PhD in phonetics,
phonology, or related field.  Desirable attributes are a demonstrated
interest in prosodic constituent structure, experience in experimental
design and phonetic segmentation, statistical skills, command of the
prosodic phonology literature, and excellence in writing.

The appointment would be from 6 January, 2003 and would last for three
years. The starting salary will be in the range of 17,626 - 19, 681
pounds sterling per annum (full time) depending on experience.
