American Language Institute
Director
The University of Southern California seeks to hire a director for its
American Language Institute (ALI). The ALI, founded in 1959, is one
of the oldest academic departments in the US specializing in ESL for
international students. The director of the ALI will be active in the
field of ESL/Applied Linguistics in both teaching and administration.
The ALI employs five full-time faculty, 10-15 graduate assistants, a
small number of part time lecturers, as well as a professional staff.
The ALI's academic and administrative home is the College of Letters,
Arts and Sciences.
The successful candidate will have an MA in TESOL, Applied Linguistics
or closely related field. PhD strongly preferred. The director will
hold a non-tenure-track faculty position and will teach in the ESL
program. Demonstrated excellence in teaching, personnel management,
curriculum/program development and evaluation are required.
