Part-Time Lecturer, Tagalog and Vietnamese
Position: The Department of Linguistics at the University of California,
San Diego (http://ling.ucsd.edu) invites applications for two part-time
lecturer positions in its Heritage Language Program: one in Heritage
Tagalog and the other in Heritage Vietnamese, at 33% to 67% time for the
full academic year beginning September 2005 ending June 30, 2006. Both
lectureships involve teaching classes on the linguistic analysis of the
languages in question for heritage speakers with good comprehension skills,
varying degrees of fluency and literacy, and significant non-native
features in their output at different levels of linguistics analysis.
These classes complement already existing sections focusing on
communicative and cultural competence.
Qualifications: The successful applicant will be a native speaker of
Tagalog or Vietnamese with (a) language teaching experience, preferably
with non-native students of the language, and (b) demonstrable training in
modern linguistics. The candidate must hold at least a B.A. (or
equivalent) degree. A degree in linguistics and prior experience
researching or instructing heritage language populations are also highly
desirable but not required. Ability to work together in coordination with
another instructor as a team is essential.
