Description:

The University of Chicago, Department of Anthropology seeks a two-year Mellon
postdoctoral fellow in sociocultural or linguistic anthropology to help explore
new directions in research and teaching.  We are particularly interested in
candidates working in areas where the Department hopes to develop its strengths
in coming years, including the Middle East (and the Islamic world more
generally), and the study of the politics of language, media, and performance,
although applicants with other thematic, geographical, and historical
specializations will also be considered.  The successful candidate will teach
two courses, one at the undergraduate level, one at the beginning graduate
level, collaborate with senior faculty members whose interests intersect with
his or her own, and participate in the intellectual life of the Department and
the University of Chicago more broadly.  Those interested in applying should
send a current curriculum vitae, as well as a detailed letter describing their
research, publications, and professional accomplishments.  Please supply as well
the names and contact information of no more than four referees.  This letter
should also include an account of proposed teaching and a statement of research
