================================================================
The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:
Job Title: Postdoc Computational Linguist
Job #: 211714
Group: CCS-3
Summary: Postdoctoral Position as a Computational Linquist: Los Alamos
National Laboratory is seeking a Computational Linguist to join the
Knowledge and Information Systems Science team
(http://www.c3.lanl.gov/knowledge/) of the Computational and Computer
Sciences Division as a post-doctoral researcher. The successful applicant
will primarily focus on a project aimed at investigating unsupervised
learning techniques in conjunction with linguistic analysis in support of
automated induction of templates for information extraction. The project
will involve developing and implementing algorithms for acquisition of
domain-specific linguistic patterns, starting at the lexical level and
expanding to include syntactic and semantic generalizations. The goal is
creation of techniques to support rapid deployment of information
extraction systems in new domains. Other research areas could include
subjectivity and opinion analysis of texts, biological language processing,
and lexical issues in ontology alignment.
Required Skills:
Experience with construction of information extraction systems. Experience
with unsupervised learning techniques for language processing. Familiarity
with Latent Semantic Analysis models. Proficiency in Perl or Python, and
Java or C++. Effective written and oral communication skills. Must be
self-directed and have successful experience working in a team-oriented
technical atmosphere.
Desired Skills:
Familiarity with Construction Grammar. Knowledge of lexical semantics.
Experience with ontological representations of meaning. Interest in lexicon
induction and ontology acquisition. Familiarity with natural language
processing for biological texts.
Education:
Ph.D. in Computational Linguistics, Computer Science, or related area
completed within the last five years or soon to be completed.
Candidates may be considered for a Director's Fellowship and outstanding
candidates may be considered for the prestigious J. Robert Oppenheimer,
