Description:

The Linguistics Program at The University of Montana-Missoula, an academic
unit of the Department of Anthropology offering a Masters in Linguistics,
invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of
Assistant Professor starting August 2007. Candidates should have earned a
doctoral degree by the time of appointment. The successful candidate must
have demonstrated abilities as an anthropological linguist with field
experience and be able to teach these skills at the graduate and
undergraduate level. Preference will be given to candidates with ongoing or
potential research projects in one of the four native families in the
Northern Plains/Northern Rockies: Salish, Kutenai, Algonquian, or Siouan. A
plus is an ability to articulate with the rest of the Anthropology
Department through an interest in ethnography, cultural heritage, or
language preservation programs.  

Candidates should send a letter of application stating their research and
teaching interests, a curriculum vitae, and contact information for three
references.  Recommenders will be contacted by the search committee.  

Review of applications will begin on January 31, 2007 and continue until
the position is filled.
