Description:

Adapx, a venture-backed software startup with significant expertise in
natural human-computer interaction is in need of a talented spoken language
processing researcher to join our research team in developing cutting-edge
multimodal interfaces for our research clients.

You will provide the method and logic for integration of language
applications into Adapx research modules and product line. Design, develop,
and user-test system(s) that will leverage the next generation of speech
and handwriting applications to meet user needs.

Essential duties and responsibilities:  (Other duties may be assigned.)

- Develop various multimodal statistical algorithms for language processing
and modeling in both speech and handwriting applications;
- Develop tools for efficiently processing corpora of speech and/or
sketch/handwriting data;
- Work with a team of researchers and developers to successfully integrate
research components and validate functionality;
- Prepare written documentation describing progress and status of project(s);
- Conduct, integrate, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative research
to generate useful and actionable insights to guide product design and
development; translate ideas into viable solutions.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

- Understanding of Spoken/Natural Language Processing, and a broad
knowledge of related statistical modeling techniques in processing either
speech or handwriting inputs;
- MS in Computer Science or a related field plus 3+ years of industry or
equivalent experience; MS preferred
- Experience desired with statistical language modeling for either speech
or handwriting applications (e.g., familiarity with CMU-Cambridge LM
toolkit, SRILM toolkit, ATT FST toolkit, MALLET, Libbow, etc.);
- Familiarity with grammar construction and usage, parsing, tagging,
lexicon construction, and fusion of outputs from multiple parallel recognizers;
- Proficiency with one or more of the following programming languages is
required:  C, C++, C#;
- Knowledge of Prolog is desirable.
- Strong algorithmic skills and analytical background;
- Working knowledge of unification-based and/or hybrid-symbolic/statistical
approaches to recognition;
- Solid coding/debugging skills;
- Demonstrated success in working in a fast-paced environment;
- Morphology experience helpful;
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, experienced researcher;
- Strong oral and written communications skills are expected;
- Attention to detail and high standards for quality;
- Ability to work effectively and successfully either independently and/or
in a collaborative team environment.
