Description:

In order to fulfill our aspiration of achieving a position of global
leadership and regional pre-eminence in research and education in the 21st
century, the University is launching a worldwide search for talent of the
highest calibre.

Within the next five years, the University will:
- require 200 more scholars across all areas, covering science,
engineering, business, social sciences, humanities, law and creative media;
- seek experts to help develop new ventures which address the pressing
issues of our time and meet regional demand, including energy, environment,
and biomedical and veterinary sciences;
- expand its campus area by 60 percent, including a state-of-the-art
Multimedia Building designed by the world-renowned architect, Mr Daniel
Libeskind.

City University of Hong Kong is one of eight tertiary institutions funded
by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region through
the University Grants Committee of Hong Kong. The University is committed
to nurturing and developing the talents of students and creating applicable
knowledge in order to support social and economic advancement. Currently,
approximately 20,000 students are enrolled in over 130 programmes ranging
from associate degrees to Ph.D. The medium of instruction is English.

Applications and nominations are invited for:

Chair Professor/Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in
Linguistics (2 posts; Ref. C/943/09)

Duties: Teach and supervise students at both undergraduate and postgraduate
levels, including B.A., M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D.  

Requirements: A Ph.D. in Linguistics or related disciplines. Undertake
research and teaching in the areas of Phonology and Forensic Linguistics.
The appointee should have a good command of written and spoken English and
Chinese, and the ability to work well with colleagues. Candidates with a
proven record of publications or excellent research potential expected.

Salary and Conditions of Service
Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with
qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a
fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Fringe benefits include leave,
medical and dental schemes, housing benefit and passage allowance where
applicable. (The remuneration package is currently under review.)
