Description:
At the department of Languages and Literary Studies a
PhD Position (TV-L E13, 50%)
is available for 3 years beginning immediately in the project "Syntactic and
pragmatic prominence of experiencers in cross-linguistic perspective", funded by
the German Research Foundation (DFG).
The project investigates the impact of semantic and pragmatic factors on
argument structure. Comparative corpus studies as well as experimental studies
are conducted in several languages including German, Chinese, Turkish, Korean,
Modern Greek, Yucatec Maya.
We invite applications for a half-time position (TV-L E13, 50%, according to the
German public service pay scale), to be filled by a doctoral student (3 years
with evaluation after the first year). The researcher is expected to collaborate
in the development of empirical methods (observational and experimental) for the
cross-linguistic study of argument structure and to conduct empirical research
in the languages of his/her expertise. He/she is expected to present the results
of his/her work in scientific conferences and to publish the findings of the
empirical research in linguistic journals.
The ideal candidate should have prior experience in one or several of the areas
of the project: typology, corpus studies, experimental studies, syntax,
semantics. Applicants with experience or knowledge in an Asian language (e.g.,
Chinese, Turkish, Korean) will be preferred. Applicants need to have a master's
degree or equivalent in linguistics or a closely related field. The preparation
of a PhD-dissertation on a topic related to the project and within the project
schedule is expected. Good command of English is required, knowledge of German
is an advantage.
Candidates are requested to send their applications (cover letter describing
research interests and CV) to the address given below. E-mail applications using
pdf-documents are welcome.
Applications received by October 25, 2009 will receive full consideration,
however, later applications may be considered as well until the position has
been filled.
