We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at
http://linguistlist.org/LL/posttolinguist.cfm.

Little seems to be known about the anecdotally reported phenomenon
of intra-word code-switching in spoken language, e.g., Zulu and
English: the Zulu 'i' prefix is used as a plural morpheme marker before
English words; Maltese and English: English morpheme markers are
added to Maltese words to mark tense and plurality.

Winford (2003, An Introduction to Contact Linguistics) concluded that
there is no consensus about the extent and type of borrowing possible
in language contact situations.

We are a research team setting up a corpus of data on this
phenomenon. We would appreciate it if you could send any examples
from your own experience or from other speakers you may know, to
l.litosseliti at city.ac.uk.

Thank you!
