The School of Education of Hunter College - CUNY invites applications in
the field of Bilingual/ Multicultural Education at the Early
Childhood/Early Elementary level, effective September 1, 2010. Appointment
to this position is anticipated on a tenure-track Assistant or Associate
Professor basis; depending upon individual qualifications of the successful
candidate. In screening applicants, we will be looking for evidence of
scholarly promise or accomplishment; commitment to a strong, productive,
research program; appropriate experience and commitment to excellence in
teaching. We invite applications from beginning to mid-career scholars. Our
School and University are especially interested in applications from
individuals who are members of groups that have been and still are
underrepresented in university faculty positions.
Duties: Coordinate the bilingual programs; teach graduate courses in the
School of Education for prospective and in-service professionals in
pre-kindergarten through sixth grade; and advise students. Duties may also
involve supervising students in the field; developing and maintaining
relationships with urban schools and institutions; engaging in research and
scholarly writing on topics concerning bilingual education and early
childhood/early elementary education; serving on department, school,
college, and university committees; and demonstrating professional
involvement in the field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Earned doctorate in bilingual/multilingual education or related field with
a specialization in early childhood/early elementary education required.
Candidates must possess strong academic proficiency in Spanish; a research
agenda related to at least one of the following: second language
acquisition/psycholinguistics, bilingual/multicultural education, classroom
language teaching, emerging bilinguals, or language teacher education;
extensive knowledge of theories and practice of bilingual education,
including linguistics; experience teaching in early childhood or early
elementary urban, culturally diverse public schools; university-level
teaching and supervisory experience in early childhood and elementary
bilingual settings; knowledge and expertise in evidence-based instruction;
knowledge of, experience with, and commitment to working in multicultural
and urban educational settings; capacity to teach and advise students in
Spanish; and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
Certification as an early childhood or elementary school teacher; skills in
using technology as a tool in education.
COMPENSATION
Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Assistant Professor: $42,873 - $74,133
Associate Professor: $55,602 - $88,418
