Two Lecturers in Applied Linguistics/English Language Teaching
£34,607 - £43,840 per annum
These posts are intended to enhance further our provision in English
Language Teaching and to contribute to the continued development of
research excellence in Modern Languages at Southampton (ranked second in
the 2008 national Research Assessment Exercise). The post holders will be
pursuing a programme of research leading to publication at national and
international level. Applicants should also be able to contribute to the
inter-disciplinary research culture of Modern Languages and the Faculty of
Humanities. They will teach research-led postgraduate and undergraduate
modules, and contribute to modules which are team-taught with other Modern
Languages colleagues. They will also contribute to the efficient management
and administration of Modern Languages.
Applications are invited from candidates who have an established research
profile in any area of Applied Linguistics/English Language Teaching, but
particularly from candidates with research/teaching interests. Post (1)
will focus on at least one of the following: language teaching pedagogy,
communicative language teaching, language teacher education, curriculum
design, or language for specific purposes. Post (2) will focus on any
aspect(s) of Global Englishes, World Englishes and/or English as a Lingua
Franca. One post (with a preference for this to be Post 1) will be
available from 1 September 2010, the other from 1 January 2011.

These two Lectureships are part of four permanent Lectureships currently
being recruited to within Modern Languages.
