We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.
In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.
To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

I am currently working on a case study for my master's thesis. The
objective is to compare with Lardiere's study on "Case and Tense in
the 'fossilized' steady state" (Lardiere, 1998). My subject is a native
speaker of Khmer (Cambodian) who acquired English as a second
language in the US.
I am doing a cross-linguistic comparison of Khmer and English for my
literature review part. In order to establish my research, I need to know
how different Khmer and English are linguistically. My study looks at
the subject acquiring inflectional morphemes in English. Since I do not
have Khmer linguistic knowledge, I cannot predict how my subject is
going to produce English.
I have found only one previous study involving Khmer speakers of
English as subjects (The Convergence of Possessive and Existential
Constructions by Duff, 1993). It would be very helpful for me if I could
get access to more studies involving Cambodian speakers of English.
Basically, I have access to only the I-Share database:
https://i-share.carli.illinois.edu/ilcso/cgi-bin/welcome
In short, I would like any information on the following:
1. Is there any study involving cross-linguistic differences between
English and Khmer (Cambodian Language)?
2. Is there any study in linguistics involving Cambodians as subjects?
Please list any titles and links (if possible) and please let me know how
I can get access to them.
Thanks,
Chheangy Chea
