The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to engage in non-discriminatory
hiring practices. We urge employers not to discriminate on the grounds of race,
ethnicity, nationality, disability, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.
However, we have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international

University or Organization: Högskolan Dalarna
Department: English
Job Location: Dalarna, Sweden
Web Address: http://www.du.se/engdept
Job Rank: Professor
Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics
Required Language(s): English (eng)
Description:
The Faculty of Humanities and Medias is seeking a full-time professor in
English, specialising in Linguistics. The post is full-time with tenure,
starting as soon as possible.
Duties:
The duties involve responsibility for building up a creative research
environment in linguistics through planning and leading research and
initiating new research projects and applying for external research
funding. Teaching and essay supervision at both undergraduate and Masters
level are also included. Time will be available for research. Certain
administrative and leadership duties can also be included.
An important part of the post is the development of research in linguistics
related to Högskolan Dalarna's strategic research profile area Culture,
Identity and Representation which focuses on the socio-cultural discourses
and forms of representation that define who we are and who we can be. The
Faculty has the goal of developing a research environment in not only
English linguistics but also the linguistics of other languages.
A large part of teaching is net-based. It is assumed that the successful
applicant will work regularly at Campus Falun during term time.
Formal requirements:
Both scientific and pedagogical skills are formal requirements to be
employed as a professor. Training in teaching at university level or the
equivalent is required. Pedagogical skill is rated as highly as the other
formal requirements.
Selection criteria:
Selection criteria will take into account the skills formally required for
such employment. Also, they will take into account administrative and other
relevant skills. Skills in developing and leading the work of personnel at
the university will also be taken into account, as well as the ability to
inform others about research and development work.
National goals regarding the job market, equality, and society will also be
taken into consideration (Higher Education Ordinances chap 4, 15 §).
Other qualifications:
A documented ability to lead research projects and successfully apply for
funding is of particular merit. Proven experience of research leadership,
course development and teaching in English linguistics as well as essay
supervision are required. We are seeking a flexible applicant who is
willing to take initiatives and to cooperate, and who is prepared to take
on greater responsibilities and work together with other teachers. Research
in applied linguistics, such as multilingualism, sociolinguistics,
intercultural communication, discourse analysis, computer-mediated
communication, translation, or language learning and teaching are of merit.
