Description:

The Department of Linguistics and the Department of Hispanic and Italian
Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago invite applications for a
Clinical Assistant Professor position. Both departments are found within
the School of Literatures, Cultural Studies, and Linguistics. The
appointment begins August 16, 2011. The clinical assistant professorship
(non-tenure track) is a 9 -month appointment. It is renewable on an annual
basis. Candidates must have a PhD or ABD in Applied Linguistics, Hispanic
linguistics, or a related field. Research and teaching areas should include
TESOL or Second Language Pedagogy and/or Second Language Acquisition in
English and Spanish. Secondary areas of interest may include Language
Assessment, Materials Development, or Curriculum Design.

Job duties include a six course teaching load distributed as follows:
-  Teach four courses a year for the Department of Linguistics at the
graduate and undergraduate levels.
-  Teach one course a year for the Spanish department. In alternate years,
this course will be Theoretical and Research Foundations for communicative
Teaching for incoming TAs and another linguistics course in Spanish.
-  The second course in Spanish will be released for the pedagogical
overseeing of the Spanish non-native and heritage speakers basic language
programs. This duty involves no administration or coordination.
